cityslickers can escape via the train from london victoria to brighton in just under an hour. shoppaholics exit the station and take a left for north laines shopping. sidney street is right at the heart of the district full of individual streetwear, record stores and boutiques. brightoners are friendly and relaxed compared to stressed out londoners. the pelirocco hotel is the most sought after place to stay over in brighton. it is reasonably priced and situated on the seafront a short stagger away from the clubs, bars, restaurants and shopping area. there are nineteen individually designed rooms to choose from, like modrophenia, skint and rough trade records. every room has a playstation. for traditional seaside fun the mechanical memories museum has over fifty vintage amusement exhibits from fortune tellers to race horses. old pennies can be bought to play on the old machines. mechanical memories is open from 12.00 at weekend and holiday periods. admission is free.
