musical jet-setter clotaire k, who spends his time in either montpellier, manhattan and beirut, combines french hip-hop with the traditional lebanese tarab sound. clotaire’s french, english and arabic rhymed tracks are normally produced by himself, before he plays them to record companies. artistic control is important to clotaire, as are live performances with his band. when he was 17, clotaire k started rapping with young latinos in los angeles. the lebanese have a rap tradition too. mountain tribes greet each other with zajal rhymes. clotaire obtains his rapper bling-bling at anjuna bijoux. anjuna is the only shop in paris which designs their own range of custom made hip-hop jewellery. owner anjuna makes rings, necklaces, chains and belts with hip-hop and graffiti-inspired writing. rings with name-engravings and miniature new york skyline are real stunners. even complicated typefaces like clotaire’s name in its arabic spelling are crafted in the shop’s workshop within a day. a machine usually does american name plates and rings in a standard font. applying ancient techniques, anjuna creates unique jewellery with prices starting at €100. anjuna has also designed rings for the promotion of a madonna album. the shop is open from 10.30-19.00, tuesday to saturday.
