gaia live is europe's first internet radio, set-up in 1996 by shamen frontman mr c. mr c is also responsible for the shamenesque name. gaia attempted to bring different fractions of the dance world together through a single network. gaia live was eventually able to broadcast on a daily basis and assembled a massive archive with classic sets by talvin singh, giles peterson, armand van helden, the chemical brothers, metalheadz and frankie bones. the advert free radio was at one time gaining 1.300 000 hits a month. unfortunately the radio station stopped making releases in 1999 when it was taken over by timothy paul read, but the website still remains. mr c begun recording solo in 2004 and after giving up both his own nightclub 'the end' and the gaia radio station he is now working on a new online home for music called superfreq. he also hosts various superfreq parties in london.
