joi

brothers farook and haroon were mixing asian and western music long before talvin singh, cornershop and nitin sawhney became famous. their father came from bangladesh and was a musician. he owned a little music shop in the east end of london, where the brothers used to help out. by the time joi brought out their first record on virgin in 1999, they had appeared over 1500 times as a sound system. only a few months later haroon died tragically after a heart attack at the nomad festival. he was only 34 years old. farook continued the project alone, winning an award at the uk asian music awards. joi is currently signed to real world records and released the album 'without zero'.
