rough trade records

featuring: rough trade sessions

rough trade records is the legendary punk music shop founded in 1976 by jeff travis in notting hill. punk and reggae fan jeff just wanted to open a shop that sold his favourite music. nowadays, apart from punk and reggae, rough trade sells obscure music genres such as click house and bastard pop. there is no mainstream pop at rough trade. if you are lucky you might bump into music celebrities like ed from the chemical brothers, sxpress, dj lotti or supermodel kate moss. rough trade shops can also be found in covent garden and tokyo. the original shop was linked to the rough trade label. bands such as the the smiths, the strokes and stiff little fingers have been signed to the label. rota organised live indie sessions in conjunction with rough trade that took place every saturday afternoon at notting hill arts club until 2011. up and coming young guitar bands played at the club. the event is now run irregularly. rough trade east is open monday-friday 08.00 - 21.00 saturday, 10.00 - 20.00 and sunday 11.00 - 19.00.
